The decline and fall of Fidel (episode 211)

Personally I suspect that the opinions that Soviet style methodology is at work in Havana (Fidel is sick when he's really already dead) might be proved wrong, but here are two articles I noticed about the situation - one by Alexandre Trudeau reminiscing about the good old days when his Dad hung out with Castro but this one in the Jamaican Gleaner gives what I think is a more realistic view of Cuba today.

Paul Wells reacts to the Commons motion recognising Quebec's nationhood within Canada: It is telling that only one nation was discussed in the House of Commons today, and it was the nation most Canadians don't live in. Apparently most of us don't deserve a nation. Certainly we don't seem to deserve a prime minister who names our nation for us. And if you don't like today's events in the Commons, you pretty much have to lump it, don't you: Vote Tory, NDP or Liberal, it's all pretty much of a muchness, because none of them can name a nation worth defending except Quebec.

South Africa disappoints a little more every day

You can just imagine some of the far-right white nutbars plotting another Trek when the likes of this happens. The pathetic spectacle of Thabo Mbeki's ostrich-like approach to AIDS and his support of the maniac in Zimbabwe is now joined by Jacob Zuma's acquittal on rape charges . Zuma's own testimony drew controversy. He testified that the woman's decision to wear a knee-length skirt and later a kanga, a traditional Africa wrap, showed she wanted to have sex with him. Many were shocked when Zuma, the former head of the South African National AIDS Council, said there was little danger of him contracting HIV from having unprotected sex with the woman. He also said that taking a shower after sex reduced the risk of getting the virus. Safari - bugs in 24 hours, bug fixes in 48

So no sooner had Safari for Windows hit the net than some bugs made an appearance . So Apple fixed them - 24 hours later. Obviously I'm not sure 9.9Mb was required but I suspect this was another Apple bandwidth wasting full install .   (By the way why is it necessary to offer Quicktime with seemingly everything you download from the main Apple web site?  Isn't the iTunes bundle enough bloat?) Reading Planet Mozilla I couldn't help but feel there was a bit of bile towards Safari - no grown up "room for all of us in the market" sentiments they used to urge on IE devotees. They also were concerned about reportage that Safari was a better renderer and launched rebuttals . But then I saw this post and started to understand. Steve Jobs is hunting Gecko, so the Mozilla community, thinking they had an ally, now realise they have an enemy. This is pretty juvenile on both sides.
