I immigrated to Canada late in 2003, and am interested in public transit and transportation generally, rights and freedoms, technology, urban planning and "soccer". My most excellent employer doesn't pay me to write on their behalf, please don't assume I do.
Now THAT is a pimped ride...

During the 2006 Commonwealth Games, a Melbourne tram was "made over" by a Pakistani group as a showcase of their culture. Check it out.
Not content with having their harvest festival at a stupid time of year, the Americans have... oh let's just let Barbara Mair tell her story from today's Star letters page : In August 2006, my nephew left his wife and 5-year-old daughter for a 6-month tour of duty in Afghanistan. He, like so many other Canadian military personnel, did this for love of his country and to fight for freedom that too many of us take for granted. On Oct. 9, 2006, our family sat down to the traditional Thanksgiving dinner. We talked about Afghanistan and wondered if those stationed there would be able to enjoy a similar meal. Later we found out that because the food service at the Kandahar base is run by the American military, they did not observe our Canadian holiday. Being the passive Canadian family, we thought Thanksgiving would be observed on the American holiday, Nov. 23 and didn't voice our disappointment at the time. What did work in the end was running Start, Microsoft Deployment Toolkit, Configure ConfigMgr Integration and take the default (for me) option to remove the MDT extensions (console extensions only). After running that, the ADK version matched up.
Would the Independent Group please make up its mind? Questions about the use of garda drivers over the years have been numerous (including their adherence or lack thereof to speed limits) and previous reports had suggested civilianising the cabinet ministerial drivers and "courtesy" drivers such as those for ex-Taoisigh and retaining police drivers only for security needs - there was also controversy about provision of a driver for the State Pathologist. While the swiftboating (albeit belatedly) of Mary McAleese is ongoing, now her daughter will pay for it. One hopes the other abusers of Garda drivers will be similarly outed, as one officer is quoted in the Sindo article: "These guards are doing menial tasks that could, in most cases, be done by civilians. And there is no accountability. If ...
